Lessons
in history repeating itself |
|
As has long been said, those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat its mistakes. |

An
article I saw at Yahoo!News
recently centered on a peculiar archeological find in England which
showed characteristics both of Roman construction and ancient Celtic
origin.
And, I was reminded of the legend of Boudica, queen of the Iceni tribe of Celts who rebelled (almost successfully) against the Romans in the 1st Century AD. Another page I read about Boudica's rebellion included this excerpt I thoroughly enjoyed reading: "You know the difference between freedom and slavery. Before the Romans came, we were free. Now we are slaves. When the Romans invaded us they robbed us of our riches. Now they continue to rob us by making us pay taxes. Every year we work on our land- and for what? So that they can take away all that we earn. I would rather die in battle than have to pay taxes. But why do I mention death? Even death isn’t free anymore. We even have to pay the Romans before we can bury our dead!" |
| Who,
would you say, are the Romans today?
